American twins to play in Brazilian soil for the first time.
São Paulo, Brazil - Mike and Bob Bryan, the number one doubles team in the world, will be playing on Brazilian soil for the first time in their careers at the 2011 ATP Brasil Open that will take place on the week of February 5th at Costa do Sauipe on the northeastern coast of Brazil.
The American twins are the winningest doubles team in the Open Era (since 1968) with 67 titles in 105 finals. They finished six seasons as the World No.1s, including 2010, when they won 11 titles, including the Australian Open and U.S. Open.
"Last season we played very well all year long to finish as the world No.1s. Besides finishing No.1, surpassing the Woodies in most titles as a tandem was quite special in our careers. For 2011 we will stay focused in winning as many titles as we can and try to finish one more season in the top of the ATP World Tour Rankings," Bob Bryan said.
The identical twins said they are motivated to play in Brazil. "Mike and I have heard many good things about Brazil and Costa do Sauipe and can´t wait to play in front of the Brazilian crowd," Bob said.
With the confirmation of the Bryan brothers, Brasil Open continues to ratify its commitment to bringing top players to the tournament year after year. Gustavo Kuerten, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Carlos Moya and Rafael Nadal, all former World No.1s have played the Brazilian ATP tournament.
"Brazil has a rich history in tennis, more recently with Guga, Bellucci, Melo, Soares, Sá and others. We have a good relationship with the Brazilian boys that travel the tour and are very much looking forward learning more about their country and culture during our stay in Bahia. We are from California, so we aren´t very worried about how quickly we will adapt to nice beaches and the sun," Mike Bryan said.
